Inspiration
Design inspiration comes to me in many ways. Sometimes it’s driven by a new piece of furniture or a current trend. But most times I am inspired by something simple and subtle. This week I was inspired by the color green. Was it because St. Patty’s Day had just passed, or because the first hints of green grass and spring flowers are poking through? I can’t say for sure, but while shopping at my local HomeGoods store, I was drawn to a large green candle. As I browsed the store with this impressive candle riding proudly in my shopping cart, I decided it was going to be the focal point for my family room refresh. A refresh that I had no intention of doing… but inspiration is funny like that.
The candle was soon joined in my cart by two large green and white seersucker pillows and a teardrop-shaped green ceramic vase. I am sucker for greenery in a room (faux, thanks to my black thumb), so this was the perfect time to incorporate a few new succulents too. My existing color scheme is fairly neutral with touches of navy and ivory. Incorporating the green was going to be seamless.
This unintended family room refresh was in fact seamless, simple and inexpensive. Good design does need to be costly or overbearing. And inspiration doesn’t need to be profound. Sometimes a simple candle can speak volumes.
